Hello again! Last night I played GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor for a good hour and so far I’ve been enjoying it. I remember it being pretty good back in the day, so it’s good to see this game has stood the test of time. Let’s jump in and take a look:
The sound and visuals are pretty good for the NES. Nothing repetitive or annoying but the game does experience slowdown (as is expected) when too many sprites are on screen at once. This is remedied by defeating some of the enemies. Problem solved.
Gameplay-wise this game stands pretty strong and the challenge seems well-balanced. You’ve got a health bar, various power-ups, multiple weapons, and switchable characters when they become available. I really like the option to switch between characters. It introduces a bit of strategy into the game and adds a bit of depth to the gameplay. Another feature I like is the overhead map that allows you to choose your path, similar to games like Bionic Commando. It kind of gives the game a non-linear feel, although most of the stages are pretty linear. Overall, the game has been pretty enjoyable, even though I thought it was easier back in the day. This looks like a game I might be spending some quality time with.
Well, that’s about it for first looks. I’ll definitely be playing this game some more over the next couple days. Back in the day this game would have been a fine weekend rental. Keep it locked in for more NES action and don’t forget to take a look at my social media and YouTube channel for more!
