NES A to Z – I: Isolated Warrior – Wrapping Things Up

Isolated Warrior was chock full of fast, fun, shoot-em-up action. Definitely worth a play.

What’s up everybody! It’s been a wild time figuring out the audio settings for my stream but I think I’ve got them down. You can hear me on the mic but I might need to adjust the game volume a touch. Anyways, let’s get into the game!

This game was a blast to play. It’s a shooter with an isometric style view and tons of fast-paced action. The gameplay really got my heart pumping with all of the action on-screen. The graphics and audio both were on point and never detracted from the game. The challenge level seemed pretty balanced and the frustration level for me was pretty low while I played through the game. Some other highlights were figuring out how to use secondary weapons and the rewarding cutscenes after finishing a stage.

I know this post is pretty short but I’ve got quite a few games to get through! Overall, I’d recommend Isolated Warrior especially if you enjoy shoot em ups. It’s got a lot of fast paced action to challenge your reflexes and it’s definitely worth a play.

That’s it for Isolated Warrior! I’ll be announcing the pick for the letter J very shortly so stay tuned!

NES A to Z – H: Hudson Hawk – Final Thoughts

Hudson Hawk is getting dragged off the edge early tonight.

Hey there! Okay, so I know I said I’d play each game for at least two hours but this game was mega frustrating to play. The controls were super touchy and I felt like half the time I just got lucky making some of the jumps in the game. The sound and visuals are kind of blah and the worst of it all was I had to start all the way from the beginning when I continued. No checkpoints or anything. After a while I just couldn’t play anymore. It just wasn’t any fun.

Some of the highlights I enjoyed were the puzzle solving I had to do early on to figure out how to advance past the owls and aggressive dachshund by pushing some crates.

I really can’t recommend this game. Try it if you must, but don’t try to play it very long.

NES A to Z – H: Hudson Hawk

Another game based on a film. This one should be a winner.

Next up for the NES A-Z series for the letter H is Hudson Hawk!

This game is based on a film that, in all honesty, I fell asleep when I tried watching it. The most I got out of it was that it was about a cat burglar that is trying to steal some Da Vinci machine or something, I’m really not sure. I fell asleep after all! Anyways, I’ll give it a play and pray I don’t fall asleep!

NES A to Z – G: GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor – Final Thoughts & Update

I took all the bosses head on on Friday night! Still haven’t defeated Cobra Commander though! Part two maybe?

Hello again! I decided to stream on Friday night and I ended up playing GI Joe for about four hours. Well, I ended up taking a few breaks so let’s just call it three. Overall I had a pretty good time playing this game. Let’s dive into the details:

Everything the game had to offer was solid. The gameplay was good, controls were on point, music and visuals were good, and it also had a fair amount of challenge. I found myself using some strategy by switching between characters and picking up as many comm radios as I could to utilize later. I really didn’t use many of the weapons other than the Laser Cannon and it seemed a bit OP as I was able to blast my way through every boss but the Cobra Commander easily with a level 4 Laser. Even after the extended play session I had, I came up fruitless in my efforts to defeat Cobra Commander. I might have to make a part two for this game. I just gotta finish it, I was so close!

That’s about all I’ve got for GI Joe. It was a pretty good game and I’d say it’s worth a play. Oh yeah! Before I forget, I wanted to bring to attention that starting today and going into tomorrow I’ll be doing a “Lightning Round” of sorts with my A-Z series. My goal is to play six games for at least two hours each. I’ll announce the game, play it, and then wrap it up with some thoughts. This should be interesting so stay tuned!

NES A to Z – G: GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor – Update

I spent a good amount of time on GI Joe this week. Stay tuned, I’ll probably be playing this game all the way through!

Whoa! Last night turned out to be a late one! I’m a little tired this morning but the good news is that this game is pretty solid and I’ve been having a great time playing it. In fact, it looks like I’m pretty close to finishing the game! I do remember this game being pretty easy after receiving the Laser Cannon and once you memorize the enemy locations the game is pretty much cake. Bosses go down extremely fast with a Laser blast at level 4. I’ve already blasted my way through four of the bosses and only Destro and Cobra Commander remain!

One idea I’ve been tossing around the past couple of weeks is whether or not to incorporate a stream into this project. Now might be an exciting time to start as I near finishing this game! I’ll mull over the idea a little bit this afternoon and prep a few things before starting this evening. Then I’ll pull the trigger and hit that “Start Streaming” button!

That’s all I have for GI Joe right now, I’ll be wrapping this game up tonight and tomorrow I’ll be introducing the pick for the letter H. Let’s hope it’s a good one! Until then, game on!

NES A to Z – G: GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor – First Looks

Back in the day GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor would’ve made a great weekend rental.

Hello again! Last night I played GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor for a good hour and so far I’ve been enjoying it. I remember it being pretty good back in the day, so it’s good to see this game has stood the test of time. Let’s jump in and take a look:

The sound and visuals are pretty good for the NES. Nothing repetitive or annoying but the game does experience slowdown (as is expected) when too many sprites are on screen at once. This is remedied by defeating some of the enemies. Problem solved.

Gameplay-wise this game stands pretty strong and the challenge seems well-balanced. You’ve got a health bar, various power-ups, multiple weapons, and switchable characters when they become available. I really like the option to switch between characters. It introduces a bit of strategy into the game and adds a bit of depth to the gameplay. Another feature I like is the overhead map that allows you to choose your path, similar to games like Bionic Commando. It kind of gives the game a non-linear feel, although most of the stages are pretty linear. Overall, the game has been pretty enjoyable, even though I thought it was easier back in the day. This looks like a game I might be spending some quality time with.

Well, that’s about it for first looks. I’ll definitely be playing this game some more over the next couple days. Back in the day this game would have been a fine weekend rental. Keep it locked in for more NES action and don’t forget to take a look at my social media and YouTube channel for more!

NES A to Z – G: GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor

Finally! A game with some promise! GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor!

Hey there! I’m back with another random game for my A-Z series! We’re to the letter G now and the game I’ll be playing is GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor. I’m pretty familiar with this game, I’ve played it before in the past and I remember it being a pretty fun run and gun platformer. This should be a much better experience than the previous two games I’ve played. Tonight I’ll be giving this game a good proper gaming session so stay tuned for my first looks soon!

NES A to Z – F: Fun House – First Looks(Final Thoughts?)

I think I’m going to take a shortcut to the next game. Fun House wasn’t that fun.

Hello again! I forgot to introduce this game yesterday so I’ll mash my first looks into the introduction. The game I’m playing for the letter F is Fun House!

Fun House…. Sounds familiar… Wasn’t that a kid’s game show back in the day? It was indeed and I thought I remembered the game show being more entertaining than this game was to play. My first play session of this game may very well be my last. It’s just not a great game by any means. Let’s take a look:

The graphics and sound on this game are pretty lackluster and don’t add much to the atmosphere of the game. Add in some poor play control and you’ve got a recipe for a bad, frustrating time. Your character is agonizing to control at times and is a major contributor to the game’s frustrations. The gameplay is pretty shallow as well, you basically skate around and hit targets with balls before the timer expires. Nothing much to it. After a few stages I got bored with it and set the game down. Chances are slim that I’ll pick it up again for another session.

Well, that’s about it for Fun House. I’ll most likely be picking the next game from my A-Z list later tonight so stay locked in. Hopefully the pick will be something a bit better for G. Until then, game on!
